WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THIS YEAR →
Being an impostor isn’t about deception. And it isn’t quite the same as what we call impostor syndrome.
It’s that strange feeling of finally living the reality you once worked toward, while some part of you still struggles to believe you deserve to be there. Stranger still, that feeling seems to have a life of its own. Awards, titles, big-name clients, and years of experience do little to silence it.
This year, Dysarium is coming out: we’re impostors.
And so are you.
Because almost all of us secretly wonder whether we truly deserve to be where we are. And almost none of us realise that everyone else is wondering the same thing.
The truth is, the people who are best at what they do are often the ones who doubt themselves most.
Hey, dino. You here?
Go on, look up. See flowers falling from the bright blue sky and fluffy clouds? 😱🌸✨ What's going on? Maybe one of the industry's biggest names has just announced a new project. Or perhaps a fresh case study has picked up three Red Dots and another five Effies. Or maybe Forbes 30 Under 30 has just unveiled its latest list.
Not quite. It seems this is simply another reason to feel that strange, private feeling most creative people would rather not talk about out loud. As if everyone else is more confident, more experienced and somehow more at home in their place than you are. As if everyone around you figured out the rules of the game long ago, while you are still afraid that one day they will see right through you.
Like you're... an impostor.
Does it sound familiar?
Then let's have an honest conversation.
As impostors talking to impostors. 😉
We're inviting you to our coming out: we're impostors. And so are you. It seems it's finally time to say it out loud. With a roar. The way dinosaurs do.
Because somewhere along the way, this feeling became almost a bonus that comes with working in a creative profession. Like a welcome gift that's automatically handed to you with your first creative project, your first job, or the first time your work gets featured on Behance or Instagram.
Because designers, artists, strategists, directors, developers, architects, illustrators and creative directors spend their lives working on things that don't exist yet. And no, we're not about to tell you that every creative idea is unique. But the path to one almost never comes with a clear route, a guideline, or ready-made answers.
More often than not, it's a mix of hypotheses, taste, risk, context, intuition, dozens of mistakes, endless revisions, and that familiar moment when you have to show the world something you don't fully believe in yourself just yet.
That's when the doubts become the loudest.
But if you think about it, doubt doesn't always mean weakness. Sometimes it simply means you care. That you see complexity where others see obvious answers. That you ask a few more questions of yourself, your work, and the world than anyone expects you to.
It can be exhausting.
But more often than not, it's exactly what gives birth to the most thoughtful, honest, and courageous work.
Being an impostor isn't just about the so-called «impostor syndrome». It's about being willing to launch ambitious projects when you're short on experience, money, people, or confidence. It's about having the courage to pursue ideas that feel too big for your age, your title, or your resources. It's about calling yourself an art director, a lead, or a founder one day — before you've truly started feeling like one.
It's about people who were writing React code yesterday and are flying drones against the occupying forces today, because a generation of impostors has learned to grow into new roles faster than anyone thought possible.
And just when it feels like you've finally figured it all out, someone comes along who seems to do everything better. Someone more talented. More precise. More confident.
But the problem is that you forget to ask a different question:
«Do they have doubts too? Do they believe in what they're creating while they're still creating it?»
At Dysarium, we know the answer.
This feeling isn't limited to beginners. It often follows people with years of experience, recognition, clients, awards, remarkable projects, and a public profile. They may look confident from the outside, but many secretly believe their success came down to luck, good timing, or someone else's mistake.
That's why this year, we're going to talk about doubt. About what it's like to be an impostor. What it's like to take on things you don't quite feel ready for yet. To call yourself something you're still learning to become. And to keep moving forward — not despite your doubts, but alongside them.
Not to romanticize uncertainty or excuse fear.
But to host the biggest coming out the creative industry has ever seen. And to finally stop pretending that any of us has it all figured out.
Because here's the truth, dinosaur: the best doubt themselves the most.
